I work at a fast-casual Mexican restaurant chain (not that one) and I would truly rather stick forks in my eyes than come back for another shift.
I get paid $15/hour to do the work of 3 people and get yelled at about fucking queso. The boss is the only one here making over $16/hour and he doesn't come in half the time, he just pops in every morning, complains about all the work he does, and fucks off. He gets paid full days for that.
My coworkers have casually been homophobic and transphobic around me. I'm trans. I don't love that.
The very implication of labor rights is enough to get ostracized. Everyone here is furious about the low pay and the heating/cooling that doesn't work and all our broken equipment, but if you even joke about doing shit about it you get looked at like you grew another head. I got in an argument today about taking 15 minutes to sit down. It is currently 80° in the building.
I'm already trying to quit. I just need to get this off my chest tbh. If I'm going to spend my time getting yelled at for not frying chips while ringing people out and cleaning and packing orders, I'm at least gonna do it with fucking health insurance.
