I hate that needing to call in sick has consequences

I woke up this morning sick to my stomach. While my boss is very understanding about me calling in, my company makes it difficult for me to feel comfortable about staying home when I need to. Since it's less than 24 hours notice, I'm going to get a slap on the wrist — a mark in an employee tracking system. If I get so many, then I no longer qualify for the bonuses or perks the company gives out. So that sucks, cuz I'm basically getting reprimanded for something I can't control. And now, any hours that I miss today will be automatically deducted from my PTO, unless I make them up within the week. So I'm probably gonna go in on my day off, just so I don't have to worry about my upcoming vacations being jeopardized. I know this isn't as bad as a lot of the stories…

I know this isn't as bad as a lot of the stories on here, but I still wanted to share it, because my company is actually one of the better ones out there. And yet still, even a “good” company gives me grief when I literally cannot come to work for fear of puking all over the place.

It's all so fucked.
