I’ve been at the same company for 4 years. I’m in a Union with the Utilities Workers of America. I work for one of my states largest Power and light companies. Since I’m passed my 4th year I no longer get a 6 month raise. I’m “topped out” . Just my annual raise in November which isn’t a raise due to inflation. I was getting 2 raises a year. Currently per our union contract it’s only a 2.75% raise. I’ve been frustrated ever since our contract went through because a lot of the new people voting didn’t even know or understand what they were voting for. I’m trying to stick it out to the next compact or contract because they are fighting for more things. But I just feel stuck because I could work over time to increase my pay/income but working Mon-Fri 8-5 is already exhausting and takes a toll on me mentally. I pay almost $150 in union dues each month and I feel like it’s for nothing. So, I guess this is a rant that sometimes unions aren’t always what they’re cracked up to be.
