This happened a little while ago, I got headhunted for a job with a crazy pay bump that I didn't think I would get..I got the job offer but I was really happy in my role and the company were decent, so I offered them the opportunity to match the pay. They offered me 25% less than what I asked as they said they couldn't pay me that as I would be earning more than people that had been there more than 10 years and two promotions higher.
Kinda disappointed I decided to hand my notice in and try something new. The company asked for my opinion on who would be a good fit and I recommended someone I worked with and trained them before I left ( they made me stick to my three months notice)
Towards the end of training, I asked my friend what they were earning and she told me she was earning around 15% more than what I asked for.
I was understandably pissed off and went back to the CEO and asked why, the excuse.
“They earn dollars, where you earn pounds.”
Morale of the story – don't believe this bullshit that you are valued, jump around looking for a pay bump every couple of years. The job is not loyal to you, so you shouldn't be to it.
Rant over.
