Supervisor out sick… Boss questions why I didn’t come in an extra day?

My supervisor was out with Covid this week. I have set in office days 2x a week. Just heard our director completely confused/annoyed as to why I didn't come into the office that extra day. Since when is it my job to cover for my supervisor?
