Overtime not being paid. AITA?

Hello all. Two months ago I got a job at small place. I am the only employee now, since my boss is verbally abusive and mentally ill, a nightmare to deal with. Anyways; long story short, on the week of 3/14 – 3/19 I worked 48.71 hours. Instead of getting 8.71 overtime hours, I only got 0.89. Apparently the pay periods are every 14 days and start on Wednesdays? In this case it went from 3/16 – 3-29. Last night, I was already over 40 hours for this current calendar week (4/25-4/30) and she wanted me to work today Saturday. So when confronted about overtime pay, my boss runs away from me screaming and even fired me. Says that payroll is set up that way, blah blah blah. Also, I found documents that a couple of former employees had signed renouncing to being paid overtime when working over 40 hours.…

I would appreciate your advice, is this legal?
Am I in the wrong for not wanting to work past 40 hours in a real world calendar week without being properly paid?

Thanks in advance and have a great day
