Hey all. This is a mini rant so if that’s not something you want to hear please disregard this post.
I currently work at starbucks and today reminded me of how sick and twisted the company is. Today I was sat down in an isolated setting one-on-one with an apparent manager of mine who i’ve never seen before. She proceeded to show me numerous videos which were basically complete propaganda and were highlighting how (common tactic of theirs) great and morally justified they are as a company. I was given a slip with all of their benefits to subconsciously try to remind me of how i’m so taken care of, how I shouldn’t be critical about the company, “look at these benefits that don’t apply to you, but look what we have to offer!” that kind of deal. I could go into greater detail but it’s irrelevant and I’m tired of it..
The manager specifically highlighted the “Giving Match” Partner Perk which i haven’t heard of until today. Basically starbucks will donate to charity if YOU do community service (not making any money whatsoever and on your own time) to an organization of your choosing, and they’ll donate “up to $1,000” per year. Why starbucks? Why should I dedicate my time and energy for free so you can look good, so you can get tax write offs, so you can gain even more leverage, so you can continue to gaslight and appear as the “good one”?? Go to hell.
Oh and the partner network is a thing. It’s basically an organized social group between stores that “brings employees together like a family.” I am at work to make money. I am not at work to make friends, especially not at a low level food service job like Starbucks. I am not interested in getting close to my managers, coworkers, the community.
I’m able to immediately see through the bullshit but constant subconscious training from Starbucks to their employees is so bad for attempting to unionize stores. All of those “benefits” but Starbucks won’t pay a living wage. That immediately disregards any and all “good” starbucks does, maybe that’s just me.
I’ve been working with the company for just over a year and I feel like i’m nearing my breaking point.
