I was about to leave for my 1pm shift (12:45, in-home support client lives relatively nearby,) and I found out that someone had hit my car. Initially, we couldn't start it because they backed into it hard enough that the front wheel slid and the steering wheel locked up. This has us concerned for the whole steering system. I called my manager for the day once to let them know I couldn't make it because of the unknown damage, and that I had to make phone calls and get the car to a shop. They insisted if I take a taxi/lyft/uber that they'd reimburse me, but I don't have any money (living that paycheck-to-paycheck life,) and told them it's not going to work out today.
Manager was huffy and snarky when she said she'd take care of it. When I thanked her, I got a condescending “Yeaaa, well…”
They've pulled this type of guilt-trip behavior before. I don't like working for them. No benefits, insurance, holiday pay. They cancelled PTO and never told employees, it just vanished. There's no good reason to want to stay, but I'm still scared of losing my job.
