This Friday I started a new job in the restaurant industry. During the interview process I made it abundantly clear that I could not close because I go to school and do not want to ruin my sleep schedule for them, they said it was a problem but they’ll find a way to work around it. Friday I went to do the onboarding at 9:30am, and started working at 11am, they then told me I had to do a double and was sent home at 11:30pm. I let it slide because I was promised it was only for this weekend. I was told to come in at 9am the next day, which was yesterday. Yesterday I worked from 9am to 12:30am. When I raised my concerns over this, the boss told me it was just for now and scheduled me for two more doubles next week. He stated that everyone works at least two doubles, but I would eventually be weened off them. I have not worked in about 5 months and am low on money but I cannot stand this bait and switch. I took this job because they agreed to work around my schedule unlike other places I’ve interviewed, and I quit my last job because I they had me working 4-5 doubles a week. The industry is soul crushing.
