Anyone from Florida working for a company that is mentioning giving pay increases to adjust for the new cost of living due to all the people moving there from up north?
It started out as a joke in the beginning of the pandemic, “wow look at all of these orange license plates from New York in Florida” and counting how many we saw. To literally driving through new construction developments and the majority of the cars are from up north and California.
Locals are being out bid by crazy amounts in cash.
New Yorkers moving to Florida because they’re fully remote and take their New York salary with them. ( I thought most companies would decrease salaries if you moved, at least my company said they would adjust it.)
It’s driving the prices of literally everything up and that’s not including inflation.
Most of the locals in Florida don’t have high salaries like big cities because Florida was middle cost of living to low cost but now it is high cost of living and you honestly need a New York salary to live comfortably.
Seeing many people I know having to move away at this point and the numbers are increasing every month.
Those savings northerners are tapping into will run dry eventually if they aren’t keeping their New York salaries then what? Seems like it’s a bubble.
Walked into work on the 1-2 days I have to go into the office and my whole floor was talking about how they can’t afford to move anywhere. Locals are stuck.
What’s the exit plan or end in sight for Floridians?
For me personally I’m hoping my company gives me fully remote and I can move somewhere more affordable. If not, I’ll have to apply for jobs with a New York salary too that’s fully remote like the people moving to Florida.
