Does anyone have a good excuse to give an employer for not wanting to be subjected to random video calls to verify you are working?

My job is a pretty sweet work from home gig and I am not looking to just quit it if I can come up with a good excuse to get out of this. Basically the manager (because we work from home now and they no longer have the power of the office) will do random facetime video calls throughout the week to verify we are by our work computer and working on things. To be completely honest, sometimes things do slow down, so I will go out to run that 15 min errand, or take a little longer lunch. I get all my work done but if you had to put a gun to my head, sure, I probably don't work every single minute the company thinks I am. That being said, I do genuinely care about getting my work done, and would not take any liberties if I knew…

To be completely honest, sometimes things do slow down, so I will go out to run that 15 min errand, or take a little longer lunch. I get all my work done but if you had to put a gun to my head, sure, I probably don't work every single minute the company thinks I am. That being said, I do genuinely care about getting my work done, and would not take any liberties if I knew I had something to do. They would never have a reason to suspect I am not doing good work based on my performance, unless for getting caught out by a random facetime. I just hate the efficiency loss of getting done with everything major for the day and then just prettying-up excel spreadsheets or doing other meaningless tasks so that I am “working” instead of knocking out some other life task like dropping that package off at UPS, or grabbing the chicken we need for dinner from the store, while I wait for replies to my emails I sent out.

I am worried that I will be caught out by the random facetime “verification” calls one day. It is done over a work phone that we need to have on us at all times. Is there something I can tell them that might get them to at least take me off of their list? Like I am uncomfortable with random check-ins? Should I just say I am in the bathroom every time and they will eventually get the picture?

I feel like no matter the excuse they will just say something like “well if you aren't doing anything you're not supposed to then it shouldn't be an issue right?”
