I have the tools and software to work from home but for no compelling reason, my company still doesn’t let its sales force do this even though we work entirely through phone, email and text.
Today, I have a slight cold and told my manager I’d still happily work from home. I was told no and that I’d have to use a vacation day for not coming into the building today.
So my customers did not get to interact with me, their personal rep, resulting in issues not getting handled properly and Me having to spend PTO despite wanting to work. I will also have to catch up on work missed which, in sales, doesn’t come to a halt just because you’re gone.
Once again, this stuff is all about control and fear-based decision making by out of touch business professionals. Middle management is directly threatened by work-from-home because it reveals the waning necessity for their positions.
If anyone has a devil’s advocate opinion on this I’d truly be interested to hear it. This sort of bs is building lots of resentment for my otherwise great and lucrative sales position.
