Earlier today I was in Sam's Club where I got to the end of the aisle and there was an automated floor cleaner coming right for me.
It was pretty smart, too. It stopped when I walked in front of it and started cleaning when I backed up looking for the operator. There was no operator. It was the operator. It was a regular human operated floor cleaner with an additional AI package added.
That's when I made the point of loudly saying, “Well there's another job we won't get back!” and I could visibly see peoples' faces turn from technological amazement to anger when they realized prices went up and there were less people being paid.
I knew these things existed, but knowing that they exist and seeing them in person are two different things. I mean, it was just four days ago that I saw a person doing that job and now a machine has that job.
