I do work beyond my job description, hit the ground running, fixed 2-yr old problems and make my boss and coworkers work much easier while pushing tech solutions to busywork. 6 months into this job, I asked for a raise. I had to hear my boss go on about how they're working on getting one themselves and how they deserve it because they work an extra day in unpaid overtime. Really? At least they make a good living. I don't make enough to replace my clothing to dress decently and work my lunch hours, so yeah, I also get significant unpaid and unreported overtime. Worst is that I know it is a zero sum game, as the pool of cash for salaries is fixed. And I won't comment on the fact that we're scrambling to buy tons of crap at the end of the fiscal year because there's leftover money in the budget.
