Antiwork

I’ve finally had enough and plan on confronting the owner next time I see him.

We work in a warehouse with another business, but both companies are like… run together? Idk, it's weird; they are both small businesses, so the owners know just about everything that goes on. We regularly deal with Owner B as he works out in the warehouse and does manual labor etc. I work 2nd shift, so he's usually finishing up his day as my team is coming in. Being a small business, our company can't really afford to fix everything, or they just take the cheapest route possible. I'm OK with some of their choices, but there's a lot of things I plan on reporting to whomever when I eventually leave; we have no hot water, our warehouse currently has no heat (except for a furnace in the back that doesn't even reach towards the front where we work + they claim we are getting heat this year), and just…

I work 2nd shift, so he's usually finishing up his day as my team is coming in. Being a small business, our company can't really afford to fix everything, or they just take the cheapest route possible. I'm OK with some of their choices, but there's a lot of things I plan on reporting to whomever when I eventually leave; we have no hot water, our warehouse currently has no heat (except for a furnace in the back that doesn't even reach towards the front where we work + they claim we are getting heat this year), and just multiple very violated OSHA rules that I'm sure they'd love to investigate. Anyway, Owner B runs a pallet company. They are a parasite and take up like 80% of the warehouse with crap. They leave garbage, pieces of wood, and junk EVERYWHERE. They never claim up their messes, ever. On top of all that, there are people with pickup trucks and small trailers that come inside our warehouse through a bay door next to the docks. This being Winter, snow is everywhere and these trailers and trucks have a lot on them. When they sit in the warehouse, it melts and there is water everywhere. Now, a little lesson in driving a hilo (forklift): when you take a hilo meant for only driving on the smooth floors of a warehouse and run it into water – even the smallest amount of water – you lose 99% of your friction.

I drive a forklift and load/unload trailers full of products for Business A. When I'm trying to place orders where they need to be and I can't move efficiently, it kinda irks me. The workers of Business B never lift a finger to sweep or squeegee water off the floor. Owner B constantly states how he'll, “have someone clean this up” and yet who cleans it up 100% of the time? That's right: my coworkers and I. This is a daily occurrence and today I was just done with it. They know they leave a mess and yet they don't fucking care. Owner B walked by me as I was grabbing a squeegee and asked how I was doing. I flat out told him, “my hands and wrists are starting to hurt from having to clean the floors every day,” and he didn't even acknowledge what I said; he just rambled on about the Superbowl and walked away. I'm so done cleaning up after them and I'm going to attempt to strongly, but firmly talk to him tomorrow and tell him that A) his team needs to clean up their messes before they leave and B) this isn't an optional task that can be half-assed.

I'm not going to give an ultimatum. I'm not going to quit because I love my manager and I like what I do here. I just want Business B to take care of their shit. They ruin anything they touch and steal whatever isn't theirs. I want to leave at some point, because I'm sure I could find a place that pays $20 minimum for hilo experience, but I'd much rather keep working where I am. Idk, I just feel confused and angry and drained.
