I work as a barista at a cafe, we have a counter top that lifts up for us to walk through and then use as a counter when its down. This lever has been able to hold the counter top up no issues, I have never had any problems with it. The last week one of my managers came in and complained the counter top was making a “clicking noise” she had the lever replaced that holds the counter up and lets it fall down.
This was at the beginning of my shift. About an hour into my shift I walk through the open counter top as I always have and the entire counter top landed on the back of my head. I have never had a concussion. I work my shifts entirely solo. I was very confused but ~thought ~ I was okay. I reached out to my manager told her what happened and explained the new lever had failed.
I hardly remember the end of that shift.
My job was pissed at me, my manager came in the next day shit talking me to my coworkers saying she “ had no idea how I managed to hurt myself “.
My one request was that they put the old lever back to make sure nobody got hurt like I did. They sent an email out saying they would keep the new bracket and instead we should “never have any reason to keep it up right”. Mind you- the only reason it was upright was because I was walking through it.
They literally do not care about our health or well being, I have never been more discouraged.
