Being a ‘good employee’ just means letting your business take advantage of you and do illegal shit, ‘for the greater good’.
I’ve been misclassified both ways, denied legally required sick time, denied legally required breaks, had wages withheld due to ‘payroll issues’…
I’ve only ever worked at one company that actually followed the fucking law. Ever.
Now, being denied state-required sick time again after shifting to a new company (because I was being misclassified at my old company and they were breaking state Covid laws) and I don’t even feel I can report them because I’ll gain a fucking reputation.
My old boss literally called my new boss to warn him about me being a ‘bad employee’ – even though I was an independent contractor and that company was breaking multiple state laws, which is the reason I left. So now I’m in a place where if I start to stand up for my legally required rights at this new company, I will inevitably be labeled a ‘bad employee’ – again.
Word gets around when you stand up for your rights, and then apparently no one will fucking hire you.
Cool, America. Fucking thanks.
I’m so fucking tired and fed up. And I can’t even call in sick.
