I know that no one WANTS to work, and not everyone has a passion that perhaps they want to make into a job or career. But for me, if I'm going to be working for 30-40 years of my life, I want to feel like my work and time matters. And I hate the idea of just working to make someone higher up a helluva lot richer. Or to get people to spend money on something. But like the highest paying jobs just make people richer and I don't want those jobs.. or they're too customer-facing and I can't do those jobs either. I have PTSD from working in grocery and I can't do it EVER again. Can't do nursing, sales, call centers, insurance, etc. Can't do it. I don't have a heart or mind for business. Don't care for it. And I don't care about people enough to do nursing. They get treated horribly.
I like my current job in a non-profit but the pay is minimum wage. So I'm trying to figure out what other jobs or careers I can do or that seem interesting or fulfilling without going too much into debt for schooling. But I'm running out of ideas.
I know most jobs in healthcare or allied health pay well, but it upsets me that we don't have universal healthcare and the idea of working in a healthcare field and having to hear stories of people not being able to afford a dental procedure, or glasses, or surgery, or whatever it is is just unappealing to me. And I don't want to be part of the toxicity of healthcare overall.
Tech jobs? To make businesses wealthier? Bleh.. no. I thought about data science, data analytics, computer science, web developer, etc. but.. they all make businesses wealthier and more efficient. I don't care about any company or service enough.
Actuary? Accountant? Just make people and businesses wealthier.. again, I don't care.
I know I'm living in a fantasy to think that any job out there isn't money-driven but that's how much I don't care about money or business or whatever. Yes, I know we need money to survive which is unfortunate but I don't want to make money by helping others get richer. I believe all businesses, big or small, are scammy to some extent. They all cut corners to save money and they all don't pay their employees enough.
Anyway, this is more or less a rant and a vent. Seemed fitting to be part of this sub.
What do you do for work? Do you like what you do? Do you have any fulfillment with it that makes the idea of working more bearable?
