If you check my previous posts you'll know that I get paid a measly $15 an hour to deal with being shit on and occasionally assaulted. It's pretty obvious to everyone that works there pay needs to increase, and it already has recently. It went from a pitiful $13 an hour to a slightly less pitiful $15 an hour, but that isn't enough, as evidenced by the lack of staffing at said work place.
I've only been here a few weeks and I'm done, $15 an hour isn't enough for all the shit we have to deal with. So I've decided I'm gonna try to force some change before I leave. The idea I have is this, give admin an ultimatum: give everyone there $20 an hour or I walk.
I mean, I can literally go make tacos for $13.50 an hour and the worst that happens is a disgruntled customer yells at me from the other side of a drive through, which I can handle decently well. Tacos don't shit on me/the floor, tacos don't have a tantrum or assault people for no reason. They're asking everyone there to get a measly $1.50 an hour extra for all that? No, fuck that.
I've discussed this with my co-workers and the universal opinion seems to be that pay needs to increase. In fact, the $20 an hour isn't even something I originally came up with. Other sources have told my workplace that $20 an hour is what's needed to be competitive, and I fully believe it. My question to you is thus: How do I get my co-workers on board with demanding higher pay? It seems like they're all just set to try and “deal with it” rather than fight to make things at least a little better. I feel like the only one that is upset enough to do anything about it, so what can I do to galvanize them?
