Return to office makes absolutely no sense

Why do companies want this. It saves money since companies don’t need to pay rent for buildings in major cities. All expenses are shifted to employees, meaning no cafeteria costs, no electricity, etc.. They become significantly more competitive in the job market. Many studies and polls were done that showed people would rather take wfh over a raise. Many of the big tech companies claim they want to become carbon neutral, well that won’t happen if your employees are driving gas cars to work, so I hope they plan to buy an EV for every single employee if the intend to keep employees in offices. I dread thinking about the return to office. Waste of my life in an unpaid commute, loss of sleep, etc
