There was a long thread a few days ago about wage discussion being a federally protected right. I learned a lot from it, and I've tried discussing with some of my family that they should feel free to engage in wage discussions with their coworkers–They were under the impression that they couldn't.
The big argument that comes up is “I'm worried about discussing wages, because my employer could make up a reason to fire me; or just eliminate my position to let me go in the name of downsizing.”
The reasoning being that, without “Fired for discussing wages” in writing, no court case could go anywhere.
So how do you get around this? I hate seeing my family scared to engage in their federally protected right: Wage discussion.
I'm planning to call the NLRB tomorrow and ask this question as well, I'll report back with what they say. Just wanted to see if anyone here knows of a solution to this fear.
