Ive been steadily employed in the same industry for many years, and typically found jobs through referrals and resumes.
I switched gears over the pandemic and am trying to start fresh in a new field.
I spend a bit of time brushing up my resume, making a template for cover letters, etc.
But it seemed that was insufficient for almost every entry level job i applied for.
I cannot wrap my head around how we let employers make this the standard.
Typically, to even submit an application, i had to
1) sign up for an account on their site, even for minimum wage part time positions. Oh no, go back and do it again, the password requires one special charecter
2) fill out ridiculously long webforms detailing previous experience. Oh you included that on your resume? Write it all out again. Tbf, some sites scrape the data from your uploaded resume, but ive yet to see it done with an acceptable level of accuracy.
I have no idea when this lunacy started, maybe im just out of touch, but isnt anyone else put off by even applying to jobs that make you jump through hoops like this before you're even on the payroll?
