I lived on a horse farm where I also took lessons. To pay off those lessons, I worked Sundays, feeding the horses, turning them in and out and cleaning their stalls. I did this for a couple years, either getting paid or getting a credit off my invoice. Their Saturday worker decided to take leave so I offered to work their Saturday shift as well.
In March I made the decision to move, I gave over a month's notice and for April I would still work the weekend, but decided to not take anymore lessons, just ride what I had for credit (about 5 rides)
I am owed $700. I have been in contact with my old boss and the last thing they told me is that they are “working on it”. Today I saw pictures of them on vacation in Cancun. I still haven't been paid.
The place I lived in was also a dump. Black mold all over the walls, water damage in the walls and floor, I had to stay with my parents a few times because my bathtub and and toilet overflowed with sewage. The deck covering the entrance is rotting and has massive holes in it, big enough to fit the upstairs tenants dogs head through (dalmatian).
I'm definitely an idiot for not having more documentation, but I did write down my hours before I left. I probably won't get paid because horse people are notorious for exploitation, but I did leave some posts on their Facebook accounts and will probably leave a Google review on their business documenting all the negative things I went through.
This sucks.
