“Do what makes you happy” Anyone hate hearing this career advice?

People always say this shit, and it confuses me for several reasons. For one thing, there aren’t very many jobs that pay me to do what I like doing. That’s why it’s called work. If people liked doing it, they wouldn’t have to pay you. And even if I found a career that I was initially passionate about, wouldn’t it become stale after a while? Or maybe that’s just me. Personally if I do something enough I’m going to lose interest in it eventually. Turning your hobbies into a full time job is a great way to lose interest in that hobby. And at the end of the day, people need money. So if this job doesn’t pay you enough to financially support yourself, you are going to have to look elsewhere, no matter how enjoyable the actual work is. Obviously try not to be in a position where you are stuck working at a job you hate if you can help it, but wouldn’t better advice be to find a job you can at least tolerate that pays well?
