Asked to be terminated

Long story short, I work with good people, in a respected field, making decent money, but everything else is a nightmare. I’ve been with my organization for several years in a stagnant “leadership” position, pushing my rock up the hill and feeling an overwhelming sense of dread or nothingness. Even if I loved every facet of my work it is still time for me to move on career-wise. So I asked to be terminated. I want this hell to stop. Even if I loved every facet of my work it is still time for me to move on career-wise. So I asked to be terminated. I want this hell to stop. I have already been told that (upper) management will not outright fire me even though my employment is at-will. There is a process that could take weeks to months (verbal warnings, write-ups, etc.) My immediate boss is willing to help by starting this process and seeing what upper management will do, but those evil creatures cannot be trusted and will likely find a way to shaft me.

My reason for writing this is for feedback on things I might not have considered in terms of the consequences of being fired from a job. They will not lay me off or anything else, only firing. All advice welcome! Thanks.
