Why do employers try to send you a warning by not rostering you?

It’s so funny when managers try to send you some sort of warning by not rostering you for a few weeks, then get surprised when you don’t show up once you get rostered again. this has literally happened to me 3 times now. My last job was at a cafe I worked at for 5 months and there was building tension between me and a new supervisor. He was pretty much just a cunt to me and my coworkers that are in high school and earning minimum wage so I just simply matched his energy when he spoke to me. He got upset then ran crying to the manager, next thing I know I’m not rostered for the next 2 weeks and they didn’t say anything to me. So of course I search for my next job and I get one not even 24 hours later because I live in Australia and there’s a shit ton of staff shortages EVERYWHERE and employers just love high schoolers that can be paid jack shit. A little over 2 weeks go by and I’m enjoying my new job, then course my old job rostered me to work only one day and it was a Saturday evening which is pretty much hell. I obviously don’t go and he tried calling me 2 times then sends me multiple texts that’s just bullshit like “where are you? we’re short staffed, you were rostered for today, are you coming? we’re so busy, are you running late?” I just ghost him. I’ve always wondered what goes through the minds of employers that do this because it’s happened to me a few times and some people I know. Why not just be straight up and warn the worker or fire them instead of confusing them?
