Hi how are you doing antiworkers?
I love that this community has inspired others to ask for a higher wage and be paid their worth.
I thought I’d do the same but my boss laughed at me.
I was in a sales role at my company (enterprise SaaS software) but a project with a major client was failing and it was all hands on deck to try and save it. Initially I was helping to proof read and format training materials and release notes. Then I started testing. Then I was adding users… before I knew it I was integral to the project and essentially doing two jobs at once.
I much preferred the project work to the sales work. I asked my boss to transfer departments. He thought about it for roughly 4 months (Nov-Feb) all while I was working overtime to do the duties of two jobs before giving me the green light to move to project consultancy.
He asked if I had any questions and I asked if the new position came with any salary adjustments. He laughed and said “we’ll see about that at your review in a few months, but I appreciate the boldness of the question”.
My heart sunk. I didn’t think I was being bold, I thought it was a natural question.
I am not in a great financial situation, I recently had to give up my rabbits because I couldn’t afford to feed us all. I am probably the lowest paid employee in our office of 10 people, most of whom are 30+ (I am in my early 20s). I could really use a boost. The office I work in is predicting £4.4mil revenue by the end of 2022. They can afford it.
What is my best recourse here? How should I approach my salary discussion at my review?
