Nice case of boss screwing himself over when trying to maintain lost control

TL;DR: Was prepared to leave for a better position and had to self-isolate due to Covid. Boss called me a liar and I decided to ask for sick leave and never see them again. Just adding to the list of stories and examples of how shitty bosses screw themselves over once you have made the decision to leave for good and they don't realise when they've lost power. A couple of weeks ago I received an offer for my current position, higher pay, better conditions, optional 3 days work from home, lots of things to learn and develop skills. How could I resist? My job back then was underpaid, taking into account the amount of roles and positions I “had” to assume, overtime and overall we had an absolute asshat of a boss who treated everyone badly.

It was Friday when I decided to leave, I informed that I would leave 15 days later, as per law and offered to stay and train my colleagues or any new employees, even though I deeply knew my boss didn’t deserve that but my workmates did.

Cue in angry call from shitty boss: “What the fuck are you doing?” Nice start. I tell him I want to leave because of reasons mentioned before and he asks me to stay, to which I answer I owe him nothing and i wont negotiate. He hangs up.

I see some friends that evening and rest for the weekend until on Sunday, a friend I saw on Friday tells me he’s Covid positive. So, the protocol at the time in my country was a 10-day self-isolation at home. I write immediately to the office to let them know and being the too good for his own good guy that I am I offer to work from home as to allow my work to be handed over to my co-workers.

And then comes the shitstorm. I am accused of lying to apparently “avoid confronting my boss on Monday”, I am ordered to present my ass at the office on Monday (ignoring the law by the way) bring any papers from the doctor as proof and told that I should (I quote) “be careful with what you do, because you are starting to lie”.

That’s when I realise I have nothing to lose. What were they going to do? Fire me right when I was about lo leave? I immediately asked for medical leave at the doctor and have never seen anyone from that place ever since. I received my paychecks and actually everything turned great. For me.
