I(f25) worked for a small family-owned company with around 35 workers for 5 years. One of the receptionists resigned on the 4th of April and since then he didn't hire anyone. Today, I choose to resign since I got a better offer somewhere else plus I would finally be able to get away from the stress, anxiety depression, and gossip of this job. My boss counter proposed by saying he would increase my salary if I take more responsibilities. I told him that I am already overworked and cannot take the pressure anymore yet he replied by saying work is more important.
When I informed him that my decision has already been made he told me that I was ungrateful and disloyal and that he doesn't want to see my face anymore. He also told me that I would have to give my 1 month's notice and he wouldn't allow me to leave earlier than that.
Am I the asshole here? Because he makes me feel that way and I am thinking that he is saying bad things about me to everyone including potential new employers.
NB: I am obliged to give him 1 month's notice as per my contract. The reception of 20+ years didn't give any notice.
