I work at a restaurant. I like the job. The co-workers are great. It's fun to work there. I really like it there all things considering. Anyways, here's the deal. A woman quit her job. I got all her day shifts (which I really wanted. I hate working nights, because I'm usually the one that had to do all the crap prep work for the next morning.) Regardless, my shift ended up being Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning. I didn't want to work Saturday morning.
Everything was great.
Then a week later, she comes waltzing back into work wanting her job back. Of course they give it to her… along with all her shifts. They change mine around and tell me about it AFTER the fact. So now, my shifts end up being Monday off (which I didn't want), and working Saturday morning (which I also didn't want). I'm paraphrasing here, but the basic excuse was “She's been here for 16 years. You've been here for 7 months. Fuck you.” More or less. I still have mornings, which I wanted, so that's nice. But I feel like if the situation were reversed (if I quit, and they filled my positions, then if I wanted to go back a week later, they wouldn't give me my old shifts back too… sorry, they're already filled. You'll have to start back on nights or whatever), I wouldn't be treated with the same courtesy.
I just feel like once you QUIT. That's it. You can have your old job back, but you should start back on the bottom rung. I can't stand nepotism. I just think it's unfair, not right, and wrong to do. Am I right in feeling this way or is “that just business?”
Just had to get some things off my chest. Thanks for reading this, whomever decides to!
