I'm a mom and so I was working full time (+overtime) overnight shifts so I could stay home with my one year old during the day and a sketchy cash bartending job on weekends. I was constantly exhausted and after tax and union fees my 15$/hour was more like 11 and the overtime was not worth it. The bar was so dangerous id be the only person there with a bunch of scary, drunk, fighting men but I hit my limit when one of them brought a gun and threatened to shoot the place up.
I decided this life was not worth it, couldn't enjoy my time with my son and I was putting my life and health at risk. I resigned from both last Saturday.
On Sunday I thought I'd apply for some other bartending jobs just to see what happens, I only applied to places within 10 minutes of my house as my two other jobs were 30 min drives away in other cities. I applied on Sunday, got called for and scheduled 8 interviews on Monday and Tuesday and by Wednesday I had done two interviews at establishments across the street from eachother, less than 10 minutes from my house, and was hired on the spot for both. I ended up cancelling my other interviews.
These places are already paying me a higher base salary with no union dues so I'm making 6$ more an hour than my overnight job and 11$ more than my bar job! Not to mention my tipout per hour was nearly $300 on a 6 hour Friday MORNING SHIFT! I was making less than 100 for 8 hours on evening weekends at the last bar I worked at. Its mind-blowing, I could easily work both jobs back to back as theyre across the street from eachother, and have so much more free time on my hands. No more spending half of what I earned that day on gas!
I'm quite satisfied with my decision to say the least.
