I work in social services as a street outreach worker.
Our outreach program is failing and has poor worker retention. At the end of this month, we will only have two staff left and four open positions.
The open positions have not been posted, and no one has been interviewed for them. Some of the positions have been open for months.
I am extremely overworked and underpaid. It’s summer now, so we get really busy responding to overdoses and people who are drinking by the water ways.
Additionally, we just had a change in management. The new management is calling the outreach workers into a meeting on Wednesday to propose new changes to the program.
I have heard through the grapevine that the new manager is looking to increase our workload with these new changes.
I will be telling him in this meeting that unless the critical staffing shortage is addressed, I will not be implementing any new changes.
Our new manager has only been at our company for a week. We had 5 people quit already due to him, and many more are looking for other jobs.
I am fully prepared to quit at this staff meeting, I am tired of my safety and well-being being put on the line.
