Driving after being awake for 22 hours…

My boss refused to get me a hotel after I had been awake for 22 hours (working on a Saturday). For context, occasionally I work overseas to install company equipment. In this case, I was asked to catch a 6AM flight and return at at 11PM. I was asked to drive to the airport for 4AM, meaning I had to leave my place at 2AM. The flight returned around 12AM and I was expected to drive home after being awake for 22 hours. I felt awful the next couple of days and cannot comprehend how I wasn’t provided with somewhere to sleep before embarking on this ~50 mile drive. I am not familiar the the Employment Rights Act 1996. Yet I am sure that this is unacceptable conduct from my employer. Can someone please help me address this issue with my boss?
