As I 'worked' to prepare for an interview I realized this just seems like BS.
I actually had one of my friends say that interviewing now-a-days is like having a second job. You need to watch all the videos on how to do it, write up a zillion STAR stories, and then companies ask you to do not just a sample of your work but full on projects.
My most recent encounter was with a company where I have yet to talk to a single human. Applied for the job online, received a form letter email reply asking me to record a number of videos for them answering questions. The best part was they said it would only take 15 to 20 mins. But you were only given 2 mins to answer a question and often only 1 chance to do so. So you had to spend a bunch of time not just figuring out what you were going to say but how to get the big points across in 2 mins. Two days later, I finished and only because I finally said f' it and just did one take come whatever may happen. Thing is after going through that I'm actually not sure if I want to work for this company anymore.
I feel like what companies are doing now is preparing you to work your arse off for them. Like they are looking for the folks that will spend all there time preparing for an interview that way when they get hired they will just naturally spend 60, 80, 100 hours to keep the job. And what's worse is people are buying into this conditioning.
So am I wrong or should we be required to do this much work just for the chance to get a job?
