I live 2 miles from the site of huge racist terrorist attack in Buffalo. My partner is African American and is obviously wrecked by the situation. I’m white. My employer has told me to take the week off and do whatever I need to do, offered onsite grief counselors, the whole nine yards.
One of my partners managers reached out to say “thoughts and prayers” before launching into a congrats for top performing employees and general news. He used his own sick time for Yesterday. He’s out of sick time. He’s requested the rest of the week of to process.
Officially, it’s to process. Unofficially, it’s also because the thought of spending the limited energy he has on making money for a massive corporation that can’t even send out an email with resources for the local employees ? Literally nothing? Why should he sacrifice his mental health by putting up with dumbass micro aggressions!?
His boss said they’d cover today. But seriously, he needs the week. So they better figure it out. Idc they are so short staffed that upper management is pitching in with daily tasks. None of it is as important as human life.
Today, we are eating some pizza for breakfast and go for a walk. Literally, we are going to take care of basic level needs.
