Please delete if too far off topic but being one of the millions of Americans who has never even imagined owning property I’m a long term renter. I’ve lived in my apartment decades. I’ve never had an issue with any building manager we’ve ever had who have come in a variety of flavors but were all more or less OK.
Recently we’ve gotten a new one and she is, to put it succinctly, a bully. She has asserted her authority all over the property by throwing away ‘abandoned’ property- meaning plants my neighbors had been collecting and planting for decades and odds and ends people stored off their back porches. She has shut down the hoses in the backyard and declared that the building bulletin boards are for her use only- going so far as to remove every pin.
She has even called the police on a tenant she felt ‘threatened’ by- the woman in question being an admittedly mildly cantankerous but otherwise harmless 70 year old who has lived here forever and who was understandably upset when she discovered dozens of her plants destroyed without notice.
My intuition is that the manager is the sort to be retaliatory if she feels directly threatened so short of forming a tenants union, which I’m looking into, I’m wondering if this community has any thoughts or ideas to how to address this situation? Both directly or, ahem, more indirectly.
If this post needs deletion here if anyone can let me know where else to post I, and my neighbors, would be obliged.
Thanks
