I'm a new GM at a restaurant in my town. I make 40k a year and so far I hate this job. Everyday I see the faces of my crew and they broken and hate it here, I but heads with my boss, this POS 60yr man thar only cares about money flowing to him. But he's miserable and I know he is, but he acts like God will magically save us from our staffing issues that can be fixed if he just pays them more. “But we need to make money before I can share it out is his excuse”. The store was GMless for a year before I took over and I increased profits by 50% in 2 months! But it's still not enough. It's never enough
These young adults, high-school kids and some 30+ look so burnt out it's crazy. All we hear from customers is how no one wants to work while they order their meals and still treat us like shit. We don't like serving these people that look down and call us lazy and still don't tip because we are so understaffed the customer service is bad….
My crew will joke with me about unionizing and I tell them to stop joking and do it! I want them to fight for the better future they want! I want them to do it! I'll walk out with them and fight with them! But they just laugh and say nah…it wouldn't fix anything…and I get heart broken. My whole childhood I was told we would change the world and we need to. These fucks in power are squeezing us for everything, using our blood and life to make money and in our fits to survive this hellacape we let them.i was talking to a friend, venting about work, and she said “it's kinda sad that your life goal is just to have basic needs met” I nearly broken down in tears…
So please Gen Z and after. Burn this workplace to the ground, piss off your bosses, abuse your company, but keep your coworkers in your mind. They won't last forever in the workplace and they friendships might spoondeep and on the surface, but they fight just like you do. Us millennials are to far in and burned out if we haven't become multi millionares but inherting money and flipping houses for rent. So please bring hope back to the common people working by being the absolute people yall are
