It’s telling that the genre of cyberpunk is “What if the future, but capitalism!”

Even in the 80s where people were engrossed by Reagan and Thatcher, science fiction writers knew that if the work-to-live system of society was a bust. Add even more automation, even more tech, but don't change anything economically and it's going to be a dystopia. Either capitalism is replaced entirely or it's altered so severely it's no longer recognizable as such. Otherwise, it's work, suffer, struggle, die, but in the future.
