TLDR: Gen X who lived the American Dream still believes trickle down economics works and things societal change is socialism.
Sorry for formatting, I’m on mobile.
Long story short, my father is an older Gen X’er. He essentially lived the American Dream, and as such, we argue about politics a LOT.
He and I were talking about politics earlier today and I was telling him how bad inequality is and how my generation (Gen Z) doesn’t even care about excess wealth.
I told him that all we want is to be able to afford a house and be able to spend time doing what we like to do without having to work our entire lives away.
He agreed with most of points about how America doesn’t give a fuck about the poor, yet he said that we could never change the system. He even tried to explain trickle down economics to me as an explanation of how capitalism works and would help the poor (lmao).
He even told me that he resented how much he has to work to provide for his family, yet when I said that maybe it would change if we targeted massive corporations and government corruption, he said my “socialist ideals would change when I want to bring my future kids to disney”.
Socialism is when no disney. I hate the american propaganda machine. You all give me hope that things will turn out well.
