I had rented a beach house in Ocean City, Maryland for ~$1000 for 6 days starting friday (beginning of memorial day weekend) with some friends. This is obviously a non-refundable considering how soon it is. 2 weeks before, I told one of my managers that I will not be in town. Not a request, a statement. The manager told me this was fine.
I come to work today and see the schedule for the next two weeks and that I had been scheduled to work friday-monday, (the entirety of memorial day weekend), but was given off on the days after, right after I was told I would have this time off.
I learned that the manager who made the schedule apparently made a statement that NO ONE would be getting time off for this holiday. Now, in my mind, I’m pissed, and I’m ready to quit. But guess what? I then find out she IS GOING ON VACATION FOR MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND.
I quit right then. (I finished my shift because I was the only one working and that is normal for the early mornings, I didn’t want to just leave the place empty and cause my other coworkers to suffer from it because they didn’t do anything to me). I’m now at home and ready to go on a now extended vacation, with jobs lined up to start right after I get back.
Moral of the story, know your worth.
