Unemployment benefits are making me pay for their mistake in overpaying me?!

I literally was unemployed 2 years ago due to the pandemic. I was able to get unemployment assistance because my jobs were affected and I was laid off. Recently I quit my job I’ve had for a year and filed for unemployment and now I get a random message saying that apparently they accidentally overpaid me and now they’re going to take 50% of my benefits to pay what was overpaid. Get this I would only be eligible for 250 a week… yet they are going to take 50% of that. How is that even livable? Also how are they able to accidentally just take money out from me for THEIR MISTAKE? I was never notified of this beforehand. It’s disgusting and I am sick and tired of our dirty, grimy government.
