Question for Americans about high wages

Hi! I don’t know if that’s the right sub, but can an American explain how come so many seem to make 50k+ and that’s like, a normal thing for you? Is it because it’s Reddit so we get to see many engineers’ / (post)graduates’ posts or is it that common to see high wages sometimes up to 100k+ for certain jobs ? I thought maybe that’s based on real estate prices so workers are able to live where they work… but if you think about it, New York and San Francisco can’t be that much more expensive than Paris (10k minimum the square-meter…) or am I wrong ? Thanks for you answers!
