Warned for being 1 minute late…

I recently started working at a particular chicken centered restaurant in the UK (not KFC) and today, I was scheduled for 4pm. At around 3:15, there was a fire drill at the student accommodation I'm staying in, meaning we all had to give our room number and stand around until everyone is accounted for. Now, when I was trained I was told that if I think I'll be late, I should call in, even if I only thing it's 1 minute. It takes 20 minutes to walk to work, and by the time I got all my stuff together from my room, it was 3:27. I figured I'd get there a few minutes early, get dressed and do the pre-shift COVID check (a qr code we have to scan in the locker room that asks us some questions about COVID symptoms etc) and then clock in. Well theres no signal…

Well theres no signal in the locker room, and the free WiFi sucks, so I was stuck standing around waiting for it to load for a few minutes and ended up clocking in 2 minutes late. As soon as I got behind the grill my manager asked what time I was meant to be in, what time it is now, went on some rant about how 1 minute is still late. He then proceeded to send me straight onto my 30 minute break 10 minutes into my 8 hour shift.

The ironic thing is that they need everyone clocked out to take the trays out of the tills, so they clock us out early and adjust it afterwards, except they don't adjust the time for everyone, they change everyones clock out time to a rough estimate of when we will be finished and call it a day. Even just yesterday, they clocked me out and changed the time to 11:30 and I didn't leave until 11:40. It's soluch a stupid system.
