Should I quit and look elsewhere or continue working while looking?

Hi All, I graduated from uni last year with a bachelors in business admin with a designation in accounting. The plan was to work in accounting and get my CPA. A few months after graduation I was hired for an “accounting role”. It was at a mid sized (25 mil in revenue) industrial company, I interviewed with the owner and he told me this is a great opportunity to get my hands on different areas of accounting, lots of opportunity for growth. Long story short 10 months in, all I do all day everyday is just invoice customers. Literally just 8 hours of data entry. Hi All,

I graduated from uni last year with a bachelors in business admin with a designation in accounting.

Whenever I used to ask for more work they would just hand me data entry related stuff, so I've just stopped asking altogether. The invoicing honestly takes maybe like 3 hours if I go at it and then for 5 hours I'm pretending to be busy which is such a waste of time. Theres no one to mentor me, I don't collaborate or work with the head accountant so I'm not learning anything. Just a dead end job really.

Now this has got me contemplating do I even want a career in accounting? I know my job right now is more administrative but regardless I know accounting is just very tedious work which does not interest me really.

I've been looking towards getting into sales. I really want to dive into starting a career in it. Start reading books, cold calling companies looking for job opportunities etc…….

Its really hard to find a sales job while being in the office all day because a lot of these jobs have extensive interview processes.

Should I just hand in my notice and go for it? I live at home with my parents and I have enough money in the bank to hold me over. OR should I just continue to work and passively apply? I just cant stand my current job its so tedious, un interactive and boring……. but my parents say its better to be working while looking…… I just dont know in this case. Thoughts?
