I was told I can leave work early if there’s no more work to do. Today that happened and I got yelled at.

I work alone as a salaried employee. My coworkers at the sister office said I can go home when there’s no more work at the office I’ll be at. Wanted word from my boss who told me that when work is done, ask if anyone in the office needs help and if not then I’m good to go. Today, I got done before noon. There were no more appointments, no help needed, so I left. I told the front desk I was heading out. I got a call just now that the front desk needed me because some work showed up. I told them I left for the day because the schedule was cleared. They said no worries, they’ll schedule the work for another office location. And then my boss called. And then my boss called. An office manager lit her up because there was nobody there to do the work. My boss then asked me why I wasn’t there. Told her exactly what I was told when I was hired. She said no, I’ll need to stay full day and “even the other guy at the other sister office stays all day after the work is done.”
