Wasted interview?

Imma set this up, and I would appreciate any input on if I wasted my time or not. So I recently got a rejection email for a job that I interviewed for yesterday. It was between me and one other person (who already works within the dept I was trying for). And that said person interviewed the same day I got the email that I wasn’t picked. I had glowing recommendations my top one being the highest position in my current department putting in a good word for me.
If you made it this far thx! And do you I think my time wasted? I think it was and I hate the fact that they have to hold interviews even if they already know who they want in that position. New mentality activated! Cruise by and only do enough for what I’m paid.
