I have a niece (my sister’s daughter) whose parents are abusive and controlling. My niece just turned 18 and I’m trying to guide her into adulthood out from under her mother’s control. She doesn’t believe she can do things because of her moms lies (registering her car in her own name, doing her own taxes, etc). She is on her moms health insurance and is using that as a tool of control and manipulation. How do you get off your parents plan? My niece qualifies for state benefits but isn’t applying because she already has health insurance.
