During my interview, I was sold a certain amount of responsabilities, certain hours, tasks, a team I would manage including a new starter who would join on the same day as me.
My hours magically changed on my contract. When I asked my manager, she explained the hours for my department were going to be different from now on.
My job description changed. They didn’t hire anyone so I was informed I would have to handle this side of the business for the time being.
After a week it became clear I had not been hired for the job sold to me, but to answer the phone. All day. Every day. On top of the other job I cover.
I don’t have time to do the job I was hired to do at all.
I work in a fairly toxic environment as well, where a « golden child » coworker is allowed to do anything and everything he wants, from not doing what being asked to totally ignoring me and ostracising me from the others.
I asked if we could hire someone, even part time, to help. There is an ad, on an obscure website, and the requested qualifications are insane. No need to say there is no new hire in sight.
I got blamed for working from home because I got covid. I got blamed for « not being supporting enough » without any data to support it.
I go to work with a weight on my stomach. Maybe I don’t have enough of a thick skin, maybe the « we are a family » thing should have alerted me, I don’t know.
« We are family. We abuse you and you shut up. »
