Name and shame time – A branch of SIEMENS in the UK have issued out a system called “Crew Hawk” to all the employees in our facility (~120 staff in a factory setting) for “safety purposes”.
Their argument is its to tell you when you're near a crane field – Except the entire building is a crane field so everyone is already aware to keep clear when someone is lifting. The system creates a network to allow them to track the position of each employee and make sure they're in their allocated place on site, and to let them know how long people are spending in the smoking shelter.
They've already announced they will also be fitting cameras onsite, and with around 60% of our staff being contractors (which is unusual for this area) they're under threat of being sacked if they kick up a fuss about it, so naturally everyone is going to roll over and take it
Say goodbye to your rights lads. I'm out ASAP, wages are good but I'm not happy with being in a people zoo and being asked to break the law (when also personally liable) for the production manager just to improve his stats for his boss. Rant over.
