I work in a plastics plant, we make custom-extruded plastic parts by the dozen/hundred/thousand. It's boring, monotonous work. Yet, somehow, I have coworkers who've worked here 20/30+ years. Last week, one retired, after working here 23 years. I asked her what she was getting paid, after so much time here, and the answer floored me.
22$/hr.
After 23 years of boring, monotonous, heavily physical plastic manufacturing, she was only making 22$/hr at retirement. For context, I am a fairly new hire, and I only started a few months back, yet I make 20$/hr. This proves that loyalty isn't rewarded, you're just given more to do. So, don't turn into an old soldier, do the minimum requirement, and if a better paying job comes up, take it.
